On Monday we took a trip to Fair Oaks Dairy Farm which is right outside of
Renssselaer. We wanted to take the boys somewhere this weekend with my parents and my sisters family before Libby has baby Ellie. My mom heard of this place from a friend at work and the kids were free to get in and it was only $10 per adult. We took a tour of the Dairy Farm and learned about the day to day operations of the farm. This farm has nearly 85,000 cattle and 19,000 acres. We only toured a small part of the farm which they call the north farm. At the north farm they have around 3200 cows which are milked three times a day!!! The tour was in a bus because they don't want anyone coming into contact with the cows to reduce the spread of diseases (mainly for the cows protection). We were also able to see a baby calf born in their birthing barn. It was really neat and Timothy just couldn't figure out what was on that cows butt.
HaHa. They also have an outdoor play area for the kids that the boys just had a blast playing in. We had a lot of fun and learned a lot about the dairy industry. It was especially important for Timothy because he is a
HUGE milk drinker and we wanted him to know where the milk comes from.
Here are some of the pictures from our visit...
